“Paying less than the minimum wage is totally unacceptable.”

Earlier in the year Jo Swinson, Minister for Employment Relations at the Department pa-10535465savings for Business, released a stern press release in which she declared that:  “Paying less than the minimum wage is totally unacceptable.”

This accompanied a story from HMRC which detailed a £4 million pound combined pay out to workers denied the minimum wage by unscrupulous employers.  Several of those compensated had been working as unpaid interns, the latest fad amongst some employers keen to avoid paying young people a wage.  HMRC have announced that they are fast-tracking investigations into this form of unpaid labour:

“Anyone who believes they are not being paid the National Minimum Wage can call the Pay and Work Rights Helpline on 0800 917 2368. Calls to the helpline from interns, who are working for nothing or for “expenses only”, are being fast-tracked to HMRC enforcement officers for investigation.”

Yet if Jo Swinson wants to track down businesses breaking minimum wage laws then perhaps the first place to look would be the Government’s own Universal Jobmatch website.  This is the website which unemployed people are increasingly forced to sign up for as a condition of receiving benefits and which is riddled with scams, spoofs, sex work and dubious self-employment vacancies.

Nestled alongside the adverts for lap dancers and Mafia drug couriers, the website features a whole host of unpaid work.  Those who are prepared to work for a daily lunch allowance can have the privilege of working full time for this recruitment agency as a ‘volunteer’.  Astonishingly they even expect applicants for this unpaid role to have “previous sales or recruitment experience”.

Other opportunities for people to line the pockets of bosses by working for free include a role at Mansion Estates, London.  This involves working six days a week propping up the profits of an estate agents and ‘may’ even lead to a real job.  It is unclear whether this role is unpaid, or whether it attracts the £500 a month salary listed in the side bar.  Either way it breaches minimum wage laws.  Another London estate agent is also on the look out for free workers.  Simple E14 Ltd are keen to recruit a ‘voluntary receptionist’.

Some of the unpaid work advertised on Universal Jobmatch may be legal, but only if it is part of a recognised Government scheme.  So this position, as an unpaid office volunteer with Aquaseal, seems to be part of the Work Experience scheme and is likely to be legal.  This one however, ten weeks unpaid work for the law firm Adonai Beulah Solicitors, seems to be completely illegal.  You’d think a bunch of solicitors might know better.

Another exciting opportunity is this vacancy advertised by david@sign-meup.co.uk who wants people to spend the Summer working without pay answering the phone, filing and ‘mainly data entry’.  Be prepared to work hard for no wages, the company warn: “You will be set daily targets to meet and be expected to reach that target.”

According to Jo Swinson: “Whenever we find examples of businesses breaking the law we will crack down on them.”

Perhaps she should have a word with Iain Duncan Smith who seems to be aiding and abetting employers who break minimum wage laws on a national scale.  It is not just unpaid workers who are being ripped off by these companies.  The tax payer is paying benefits to fund these unpaid workers whilst the companies are dodging the National Insurance they would have to pay were these workers on wages.  The renegade DWP is making a mockery of the minimum wage laws, and we are all paying the cost.

Russia slams end of EU arms embargo, Syria

The failure of the European Union to agree on a new arms embargo for Syria is undermining the peace process, Moscow says. But the delivery of S-300 surface-to-air missiles may help restrain warmongers.

The comments come from Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, referring to the results of Monday’s meeting in Brussels. After a lengthy negotiating session, EU governments failed to resolve their differences and allowed a ban on arming the Syrian opposition to expire, with France and Britain scoring an apparent victory at the expense of EU unity.

The EU’s move, which the Russian diplomat branded as an “example of double standards”, opens the door for Britain and France to supply weapons to Syrian rebels fighting the regime of President Bashar Assad.

Criticizing Europe’s decision to open the way for potential arms shipments to Syrian rebels, Russia insists that its own sale of arms to the Syrian government helps the international effort to end the two-year-long conflict, the diplomat added. He was referring to the delivery of the advanced S-300 long-range air defense systems, which Russia is carrying out under a contract signed with Syria several years ago.

“Those systems by definition cannot be used by militant groups on the battlefield,” Ryabkov said. “We consider this delivery a factor of stabilization. We believe that moves like this one to a great degree restrain some hotheads from escalating the conflict to the international scale, from involving external forces.”

The S-300 is a series of Russian long-range surface-to-air missile systems designed to intercept ballistic missiles, regarded as the most potent weaponry of its class. The missiles are capable of engaging aerial targets as far away as 200km, depending on the version used.

However, Russia has neither confirmed, nor denied “the status of those shipments.”

“The only thing I can tell is that we are not refusing from them,” Sergey Ryabkov said. “We see that this question worries our partners, but we have no reason to reconsider our position in this sphere,” he said.

Despite the uncertainty around S-300 shipments, Israel said it will know how to act if Russia does supply surface-to-air missiles.

“I can say that the shipments are not on their way yet,” Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon told reporters. “I hope they will not leave, and if, God forbid, they reach Syria, we will know what to do,” he said, without disclosing his sources.

Israel is concerned by possible Russian supplies to Syria, saying that advanced weapon systems could end up in the hands of Iran or the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

Once the Russian SAM missiles are deployed by Syria, it will have a better control of its airspace. The country endured three airstrikes this year, which are widely thought to have been conducted by Israel, but were never officially confirmed as such.

Britain and France have made a commitment not to deliver arms to the Syrian opposition “at this stage,” an EU declaration said. EU officials, however, said the commitment effectively expires on August 1.

However, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has stressed that Britain may start arming the rebels before an August 1, saying that it has a right to do so from now on. At the same time, he noted that Britain would only send arms to Syrian rebels with other countries and not in violation of international law.

London and Paris have argued support for rebels fighting Assad by allowing EU arms deliveries, despite the fact that extremist elements are known to work alongside the rebels.

Other EU governments, led by Austria and Sweden, argued that sending more weapons to the region would increase violence and spread instability.

Russia’s envoy to NATO Aleksandr Grushko said that the abolition of the EU arms embargo on the Syrian opposition will only exacerbate armed conflict in that country.

“We need to refrain from taking steps that would be contrary to this logic. Such steps include armed or non-lethal support to the opposition. This just adds fuel to the fire,” Grushko said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Moscow and Washington remain undecided as to the content of a proposed international conference on Syria, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.

“There remains a gap between the positions of Russia and the US regarding some issues and aspects of this major international crisis,” he emphasized.

“And we, for our part, cannot agree to hold such events [the international conference on Syria] amid a situation where partners and possible participants in such a conference seek to impose solutions on the Syrian people from the outside, as well as predetermine the course of a transitional process, the parameters of which have not been determined yet,” Ryabkov said.

WikiLeaks slams ‘We Steal Secrets’ doc film

WikiLeaks has lashed out at forthcoming a US-made documentary on founder Julian Assange. The whistleblowing group decried the film for its alleged inaccuracies, chiefly implications that Assange conspired with Bradley Manning to commit espionage.

The anti-secrecy organization released an annotated copy of the film’s transcript that took no prisoners. Even the documentary’s name – ‘We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks’ – was condemned by the group as misleading.

“It directly implies that WikiLeaks steals secrets. In fact, the statement is made by former CIA/NSA director Michael Hayden in relation to the activities of US government spies, not in relation to WikiLeaks,” the group wrote.

The film premiered in the US on Friday, and has been styled by director Alex Gibney as a David-and-Goliath story, with Assange as David. However, Gibney did not collaborate with Assange or WikiLeaks in the making of the documentary.

“Neither Julian Assange nor anyone associated with WikiLeaks over the past two-and-a-half years agreed to participate in the film,” WikiLeaks wrote.

The annotated copy of the script focuses on what WikiLeaks views as an erroneous portrayal of whistleblower Bradley Manning, who is currently facing trial and potential court martial for released classified documents to the group in 2010. WikiLeaks alleged that Gibney portrays Manning in the film to make it appear his “acts represent a failure of character, rather than a triumph of conscience.”

Father Convicted of Serial Rape of his step children

Stephanie Dodd instructed by the CPS RASSO unit successfully prosecuted Peter Gammon from London SW18 who sexually abused and raped 3 of his step children as well as his ex wife. Sentencing him to 17 years imprisonment, the Judge at Blackfriars remarked that he was an evil man and that putting his step children through the trial had been ‘like raping them all over again’. The jury convicted him of all 15 counts on the indictment.

During the trial in Court 8 Case NO#T20127298 Peter Gammon (facebook profile below)used his powers of manipulation to instruct his biological daughter Annie Gammon/Edwards (facebook profile below) to badger witnesses and upon the finding of the guilty verdict Ms Gammon/Edwardes of Sydenham London SE27 hurled a barrage of abuse at the teenage victims but was finally removed from the court. Ms Annie Gammon/Edwardes his biological daughter lives with her dad’s brothers son Mr Martin Bangs, (who has a history of drug abuse and has to be supervised at a contact center for access to his own children) and her 2 daughters and son. It is unclear if the relationship with Mr Bangs is incestuous at this time although according to neighbour reports they are a couple.  Mr Bangs (facebook profile/s below) was seen by neighbours to be threatening to stab a young man outside his home and brandishing a knife while the children were watching. There are reports that the children have been struck violently about the face by their mother in the past and social services have been in contact in the past due to violent abusive behaviour in the household with her previous partner. During reporting this case we have established that Ms Gammon/Edwardes has used her children and other peoples children in the past to commit acts of theft on her behalf. Police reports confirm this.
Sources have also branded her the same as her father “Evil and Violent”.

Peter Gammon, 58, was found guilty of 14 offences in Kentish Town between 1982 and 2000.

His victims, three aged under 14 at the time, gave evidence from behind a curtain at Blackfriars Crown Court. One said: “I just made myself forget. I had nobody to tell. It just kept happening.”

The women were commended for their bravery by Judge Henry Blacksell QC, who jailed Gammon on February 21.

The judge, who called Gammon “an evil man”, said that making his victims go through a trial was “like raping them all over again”.

Gammon, who was living in East Ham at the time of the offences, was arrested in October 2011 after one of the women came forward.
At the conclusion of the trial, the investigating officer, Trainee Detective Constable Brendan McGrath, of Camden and Islington child abuse investigation team, was commended by the judge.

Mr Gammons other biological daughter Megan Gammon (RealMe27) Megan.gammon@nhs.net works for the NHS and it is clamied she accessed confidential medical records
for Mr Gammon in the past, of who and why is still to be established Ms Gammons facebook profile link below:
(http://www.facebook.com/Maaaaaangdag) at the time of this report the timeline picture shows Mr Gammon kissing a toddler.

It seems the only person who was disgusted at their fathers crime is Mr Gammon’s son Danny Gammon from Essex.

This is not the first time this family has been before the courts for child abuse, Mr Henry Twyner married at the time to Mrs Tara Edwardes was convicted of sexually abusing his daughters and sentenced to prison. A string of other similar accusations have been investigated.

During my time in the court it was clear that Mr Gammon showed no remorse, whistling and joking around between court breaks. The victims were so scared that the court gave permission for them to give video evidence and in person via a screen.

Darren Purchase found guilty

Darren Purchase found guiltyImage

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting and raping eight people including a 13-year-old boy.

Darren Purchase, 45, of Hayfield Close in Worcester was found guilty of 15 offences committed over 25 years.

His charges also included indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl in 1984 and raping a woman in 2009.

Purchase was told by the judge at Worcester Crown Court he must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

The court heard Purchase groomed a 13-year-old boy during the 1980s and abused him over a six year period, including raping him.

‘Completely indiscriminate’

He was arrested last year after his victim contacted the police, reporting that in addition to being abused Purchase had made him sniff glue, drink heavily and smoke cannabis.

Det Insp Jon Wallis, from West Mercia Police, said: “From this first report, we were quickly able to identify many other victims, some who had tried to bury what happened to them in their past.

“Purchase abused boys, girls and women and seems to have been completely indiscriminate in whom he targeted, except that most of his victims were vulnerable in some way and Purchase ruthlessly took advantage of that.

“I want to thank all those who supported our prosecution, took part in the trial and had the strength to come to court and relive those terrible experiences.”

He added: “Their evidence means we could put a stop to Purchase’s relentless offending and, I think, stop many others from becoming his victims.”

British lawmaker blames a Jewish conspiracy

(JTA) — A British lawmaker who blamed a Jewish conspiracy for his conviction in connection with a fatal car crash apologized for his statements.

Lord Nazir Ahmed of the Labor party in an interview last week with the Huffington Post UK “completely and unreservedly” apologized to “the Jewish community, to the judiciary, to the newspaper owners” for his comments, and said that he has “the greatest respect” for the Jewish community.

Ahmed, who is Muslim, told the Huffington Post that he is “not anti-Semitic,” and that “I only believe in facts and to be honest I should have stuck with the facts rather than with conspiracy theories.”

He had claimed in an interview with a Pakistani television station that his legal problems following the 2007 crash resulted from pressure placed on the courts by Jews “who own newspapers and TV channels.” He was suspended from the party earlier this month following the uncovering of his comments.

Jewish Labor lawmaker Gerald Kaufman supported Ahmed in an interview with the Huffington Post.

“I have witnessed Nazir reprimanding people who’ve made anti-Semitic remarks at public events,” he said. “He’s not only not anti-Semitic, he’s pro-Jewish.”

In March 2009, an appeals court freed Ahmed from a 12-week prison sentence following his conviction for dangerous driving in 2007. Ahmed was involved in an accident that claimed the life of 28-year-old Martyn Gombar.

Gombar, who reportedly was drunk, collided with Ahmed’s car, The Times reported. Ahmed pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in Sheffield Magistrates’ Court in December 2008.

According to the Times, Ahmed alleged that the judge who handed down  his sentence, Alan Wilkie, was appointed to the High Court after helping a “Jewish colleague” of former Prime Minister Tony Blair. Ahmed also allegedly maintained that the plot stemmed from Jewish disapproval of his support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

“My case became more critical because I went to Gaza to support Palestinians,” he allegedly said in the Pakistani TV interview. “My Jewish friends who own newspapers and TV channels opposed this.”

UK Universal Credit Lies

“I’m not going to give you anything other than the official line. I’m not mental.” Graham Mowat from the DWP Universal Credit directorate.

A senior member of the DWP team currently bungling welfare reform suggested he would be ‘mental’ to say anything other than the official line when questioned whether Universal Credit would really be rolled out in October this year according the public sector website 24dash,

Mowat made the shocking statement whilst speaking at the National Housing Federation Finance Conference. People with mental health conditions are likely to be some of those worst affected by the new social security regime as the use of ever more punishing benefit sanctions are inflicted on those judged not trying hard enough to find work. Mowat’s choice of language reveals the flippant attitude at the DWP towards those whose lives are set to be plunged into chaos by the new system.

Mowat also reportedly gave an explanation for the apparent disappearance of Lord Fraud’s budgeting support for so-called vulnerable claimants – first reported here over a month ago.

It seems that the Treasury has finally cut off the money supply – which is particularly revealing in the wake of accusations that work has stopped on building the complex IT system that underlies Universal Credit.

One thing seems certain, which is that the very visible chaos at the DWP is nothing compared to what’s going on behind the scenes as Iain Duncan Smith’s endless brutal and bodged schemes unravel.
